Sam spent his childhood in South Carolina and New Jersey, and as a high school student, Sam would hold Stanley Kubrick film festivals, both at his home at school. Following his matriculation, Sam enrolled at New York University, and after working in the University’s computer lab for a while, he was involved in an incident which resulted in an academic probation. He then turned to performing arts, and obtained a B.F.A. degree from Tisch School of the Arts. He furthered his studies at the AFI Conservatory by obtaining a Master of Fine Arts degree.
One of his earliest works was as producer of the short film “The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special” back in 2002, while two years later, he directed the short film “Deep Down in Florida”. He then worked in the shadows on such projects as “The Fast and the Furious”, among others, while in 2014 he resurged with his directorial debut “Comet”, for which he also wrote the script, and produced the film, which starred Emmy Rossum, Justine Long and Kayla Servi. The following year, Sam came to prominence when USA Network picked up his script for the TV thriller series “Mr.Robot”; though he planned it to be a feature film, he worked further on the story, to the extent where fans are now awaiting the premiere of its fourth season. The series stars Rami Malek, Christian Slater, and Portia Doubleday, and has so far earned Sam a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in the category for Outstanding Drama Series, and also won him the WGA Award in the category New Series. He is now working on the thriller drama series “Homecoming”, scheduled for release in 2018, of which he is the director, writer, and producer.
When it comes to his personal life, Sam has been married to Emmy Rossum since May 2017; the couple has been in a relationship since 2013, announcing their engagement in 2015.
