In 1978 he opened the doors of his own company, and after years of successful work, he sold it in the ‘90s, which only increased his wealth. Since the ‘90s, he has held numerous notable positions in famous shoe brand companies, such as LC Footwear L.L.C. since 1995, and Chairman of the Fashion Footwear Association of New York, among other positions, all of which have added a significant amount to his net worth. Also, from 2001 to 2008 he was a Director of Nine West Group Inc.

Aside from shoe business, Wayne diversified into sports; he and several other businessmen teamed up in a venture to bring NFL to Jacksonville, Florida. After several years of battle with the league officials, Wayne became the first president of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1993. He owned the team until 2011, when he and his partners sold the franchise to Illinois businessman Shahid Khan for $760 million, adding further to his wealth.

Regarding his personal life, Wayne has been married to Delores Barr since 1955; the couple has two children together.

Wayne and his wife are well-known philanthropists; the two started the Jaguars Foundation through which they grant over $1 million to organizations that help families and children in need.

Thanks to their consistent contributions to the community, he and his wife received the River Advocate Award from the St. Johns Riverkeeper at Mayor John Peyton’s Environmental Luncheon on 3 April 2009.
