Ken Osmond Wiki Biography
Kenneth Charles Osmond is an actor and former police officer, born on 7th June 1943 in Glendale, California, USA. He is best known for his iconic role of Eddie Haskel in the 1950s TV comedy “Leave It to Beaver”, and its reprise with the 1980s series “The New Leave It to Beaver”.
Have you ever wondered how rich Ken Osmond is? According to sources it has been estimated that Ken Osmond’s overall net worth is $500 000, accumulated mostly thanks to this initial major success of the 1950s TV sitcom in which he played a recurring role. Having returned to acting during the ‘80s, Ken further increased his wealth and popularity.

Ken started acting in childhood, as his mother had ambitions to get him and his brother, Dayton, into acting. He apparently began appearing at professional auditions when he was just four, and soon started to work in commercials. Among several other activities, Ken and his brother attended acting and diction classes every day after school. Their film debut was as child extras in “Plymouth Adventure”(1952), the Mayflower pilgrim tale which starred Spencer Tracy. Soon followed cameo appearances in films like “So Big”, “Good Morning, Miss Dove” and Everything But the Truth”. At the age of fourteen, Ken got the key role of Eddie Haskell in the popular TV show “Leave It to Beaver”, and became an instant sensation; Osmond stayed on the show for six seasons, until its demise in 1963, which established his net worth.
However, despite the fame he gained during the airing of the show, Ken had a difficult time after its end. He managed to grab a few roles in comedy shows such as “The Munsters”, “Petticoat Junction” and “Lassie”, and was also cast in films like “C’mon Let’s Live a Little” and “With Six You Get Eggroll” during the late ‘60s, but never achieved much success.
Ken soon decided to abandon his acting career, and joined the Los Angeles Police Department. During his subsequent long career as a policeman, Ken was wounded three times and eventually retired with a medical disability pension in 1988. However, during the ‘80s, Osmond came back to television with a reunion movie and the revived cable version of the once popular series, this time called “Still the Beaver”(1983). The film featured five actors from the original cast, and Ken’s real-life offspring, Christian and Eric Osmond also appeared in the series as his sons. In 1997, a full-length film version was released, bringing Osmond back to the screen once again.
Today, Ken still makes occasional appearances at film festivals, nostalgia conventions and collectors’ shows. His more recent activity includes co-authoring the book along with Christopher J. Lynch entitled “Eddie: The Life and Times of America’s Pre-eminent Bad Boy”, which was published in 2014.
When it comes to his private life, Ken has been married to Sandra Purdy since 1969, and the couple has two sons. Osmond now handles rental properties in the Los Angeles area, where he also resides.

1 | It surprises me every day that this [Eddie Haskell] character is still so popular. I don't completely understand it, but it's nice. |
# | Fact |
---|---|
1 | He has played the same character (Eddie Haskell) on four different series: Leave It to Beaver (1957), The New Leave It to Beaver (1983), Parker Lewis Can't Lose (1990) and Hi Honey, I'm Home (1991). |
2 | Joined the Los Angeles Police Dept. Now retired. |
3 | Is a member of the American Legion. |
4 | In the original "Leave It to Beaver" pilot, there was a character similar to Eddie played by another boy actor. In the third episode of the series entitled "New Neighbors," the Eddie Haskell character with Ken in the role made its debut. |
5 | Rumor had it that Ken later become a porn star. The truth is that legendary adult film actor John Holmes billed himself satirically under the name "Eddie Haskell" a few times. Ken, an ultra conservative, was outraged and launched a $25 million suit that went all the way to the California Supreme Court. The court ruled for Holmes, however, stating that the name was protected as a satire. This case set a precedent in the matter, and is still referred to by other cases in California today. The owner of one L.A. adult movie house that had put up his marquee reading "Eddie Haskell of TV in 'Behind the Green Door' X-rated," was asked to remove the billing by none other than Police Officer Ken Osmond. |
6 | There was another urban legend that once had fans thinking Ken was actually Alice Cooper, the rock singer. This originated from a Rolling Stones interview with Cooper. Cooper stated that he was "Eddie Haskell" as a child. Mr. Cooper was, of course, speaking metaphorically, but some readers interpreted it literally and the rumor went rampant. |
7 | He was severely typed as TV's favorite insincere school-age brownnoser ("Good morning, Mrs. Cleaver!") in the late 50s and early 60s and eventually was forced to quit the business. |
8 | Spent most of his 18 years of service assigned to Central Traffic Division where he was rarely recognized as 'Leave It to Beaver' character. |
9 | After retiring from the police force, he made his living from various Los Angeles-based rental properties which he maintained himself. |
10 | Was shot three times in the line of duty as an LA cop. |
11 | Father of Christian Osmond and Eric Osmond |
